10th Colombian Serenade/”Serenata Colombiana”—A Benefit Performance

Hello UEPAGE Foundation Friends and Family,

It’s amazing that it has already been a year since the 9th Colombian Serenade/”Serenata Colombiana”, and that we are now ready completing our first decade of Serenades in Davis, California.

For those who have not attended our previous nine Serenades, the “Serenata” is an act of love for our country, which even though it is far away in distance we hold very close in our hearts.

Through our “Serenata”, we hope to show the Davis community and its surrounding areas (which now reach as far as Fresno to the south, Orland to the north, Tahoe to the east, and San Francisco and Monterey to the west) the best from our country: our music and dance, its landscapes, and especially the happiness of our people.

Saturday, December 5, at the Davis Senior High School Theater at 7 PM, we will begin our event with Sarah Vanegas, who had her debut on the piano at the 9th “Serenata”.  After that, we will have a presentation about the Microcredit Bank Project (which is already a reality) for women who are the heads of their households in el Chocó; this project is sponsored by Funbichocó-Davis.  The net profits from this “Serenata” will be given to this Bank.  For further information, please click here.

This year, we have gathered musicians from various nationalities to give a “Serenade to the Colombian Serenade”.  With them, we will pay homage to the life of two great symbols of the Latin American culture: Mercedes Sosa and Mario Benedetti, who passed away this year.  To honor them, Patricia Maccari and Ernesto Rassi from Argentina and Cecilia González from Uruguay will be performing.  And on behalf of Brasil, Scarlet Huber will be geographically connecting the borders of South America.

On behalf of the Colombians, we will be paying homage to Rafael Escalona, the renowned composer of our “vallenato” folklore, who passed away a few months ago.  For this reason, our poster this year is illustrating that house in the air that we Colombians have dreamt about so many times and that today Rafael, its composer, is now enjoying up in the clouds with the little angels that are holding it up there.  Los Primos and Colombia Viva, the groups that will be hosting the event, will be accompanied by the great accordion master and director of the Orquesta Revelación Caribe, Efraín Orjuela, who is making a special appearance from Fresno to delight us with his music.  To close, we have a surprise that will fill everyone with joy… What could it be?  Come and see!

If you buy your ticket, your family’s tickets, and why not those of your friends ahead of time, you will not only ensure your entrance to the theater, but you will also be contributing to the well being of the women who have been displaced from their roots in Chocó. The tickets are only $10 per adult and $5 per child under 12 years of age. We want everyone to come together and join us in this celebration of our first decade! If you cannot attend this year but would still like to contribute, please feel free to send us your donation to: 932 Craig Place, Davis, CA  95616.

We hope to see you all there!
